Master Bedroom Project

This week I scored a pair of vintage bamboo chinoiserie chairs from a local estate sale.  I love them so much that I've decided to keep them for my own home.  But now, I need to decide how I'm going to refinish them!

My master bedroom has been in a state of flux for a few months.  It has changed drastically from the photos that appear on the blog.  (Visit Master Bedroom).   If nothing more, this project has made me realize that I need to get some updated shots of the bedroom up here!

Forgive the overly saturated color of this bedroom shot.  I'm sharing it here so you can have a reference point of where I'm starting from.  Earlier this year, I swapped out the pinstripe duvet for a custom duvet made from Cotton & Quill's art deco collection.  I needed to work around the curtains in the room because we put some money into them and it's too soon to update them (budget wise).

I thought this Runnin Wild pattern from Cotton & Quill tied together the existing colors in the room nicely.

Here are the swatches on the bed during the planning phase.  I had the front made in the art deco pattern with above and the back of the duvet in the yellow.

I love how the duvet fabric blends with the chevron teal rug that was already in there.

Here is a very rough shot of the completed duvet with the drapery.  I promise to share better photos as I move forward with this project, but this will give you an idea of what's in there now.

I plan to remove the gray fireside chairs that are in the room (in fact they are already gone and put into our guest bedroom).  The new bamboo chairs will go on both sides of the fireplace.  The natural frames will already blend beautifully in there if I decide not to paint them.  But you know me, everything is better with a pop of color.  The decision is still out on whether or not I will paint the frames.  

The seat cushions will definitely be recovered and I'm currently gathering swatches to consider.  

Here are some considerations: 

These Broome Street Studio designs are not as saturated in color as they appear here.  I love the peacock and think that would tie in with the art deco theme of the current duvet.  

However, this Impari Vase by Thibaut is a dead match for color (I've already received the swatch).  The jury is still out.

VHH Master Bedroom Project

It's rare that I find a block of time to sit down, start a post and actually finish it.  This Saturday morning, I'm going to attempt to catch up on as much as possible before the kids beckon my attention.

(Their latest fascination is with professional wrestling and WWE wrestler John Cena 
They simulate wrestling matches and chant Cena's theme song "You Caint See ME, tha time is NOW"...."

This started out as funny; however it has gotten progressively more annoying.  Especially when their play wrestling escalates into a full on brawl...then I attempt to separate them and give them each a time out and they look at me with this face and say "you can't seeeeee me, you can't seeee me."

But I digress.

Most of ya'll that follow me on instagram manage to stay up to date with projects and happenings that I'm working on.  I post there daily and it's so simple.   But I think it's important that I maintain a connection with the rest of my Vivid Hue Homies through this blog.  And so, I promise that I will still post about projects and events here as well.

With that said,  one of my current personal projects at home is updating my master bedroom.  Here is a current photo of the room.  Don't get me wrong, overall, I love the room and I have put quite a bit of work into it already.  But I have always wanted the bedding to be a bit more upscale and better tied into the other elements of the room.  Much of the furniture is custom or made to order and I feel like the bedding has always been an "after thought."

There are a few caveats that I have needed to consider.  The curtains, fireplace chairs, dressers and X benches were all part of our initial investment into the room.  They are not old enough for me to replace and we made an investment into these items, so I needed as many of them to remain as possible.  (I'm not wanting to do an entire room make over).

So I had yellow, gray and teal to work with as my colors (Of course with pops of other colors but I considered these colors not as permanent).

One day I was in the @vividhuehome shop perusing through the Cotton & Quill textiles that we often turn into pillows and upholstery for our customers when I had an ah-ha moment.

The Cotton & Quill Deco Collection had a swatch called The Charleston with all of my necessary color ways.

So I took the swatch home to try it: 

And I absolutely love it.  I'm currently having Cotton & Quill make the duvet for me in the sateen finish.  The front will be the Charleston print and the back will be the yellow candlestick print.  

And now everything else seems to be falling into place:

I'm starting to hear the Cena theme song and one kid has the other pinned to the ground for three seconds while the other is shouting "you can't see me!  you can't seeeee me."  So I'm off to refer that project for now.  Until next time!

House Tour: Master

I have been pretty radio silent on the blog lately.  I apologize but I have a good reason...I've been on vacay relaxing.  That, and I have also been using my Instagram like crazy to document my daily eye-candy.

This year, EG knew I could use a much needed break from the kiddos so he took them on the Lobster Boat Cruise solo and freed me up to spend the morning hitting some of the antique shops and stores and I love the most. 

My first stop, of course, my absolute favorite home accessories and design spot:

The second I walked into the store, I spotted these terrific Asher Market alpaca throws.  I would love the Magenta Asher Market Throw for my Master bedroom.  (What a perfect Christmas present.  Hint, hint, EG...and what do ya know...you can purchase online here).   Also, I made a collage below so ya'll can see just how lovely this throw would  look coordinating with my ottomans. 

Moving on...
It never fails that Spaces always carries a terrific inventory of Roberta Roller Rabbit products.  From fabulously colored tunics to excellent bedding and accessories.  (More on Roberta Freymann here)

One of the things I love most about Spaces is that every ounce of the store is filled with wonderful accessories and patterns and decor.  Here are a few of the other savory items I found on my visit... 

I was digging these mason jars with the star burst tops!  Fun for a summer party, especially with those striped straws. 

Amazing decorative pillows by Nandini, Pehr, John Robshaw, Christen Maxwell, and more!  (purchase here)

 Burst of colorful frames

This little stool was brushed in a hot pink finish and would be adorable in the corner of the room or as a footstool. 

  One can never have too many summer clutches.  These are fun and I'm into the pink and navy lately! 

I left the store with many ideas flooding through my head, but no purchases.  I was obsessed about that alpaca throw bout I wanted to make sure I would match in my master bedroom before purchasing.  Now that I'm back home in Connecticut and have held the photo up in the room itself, I'm obsessed with asking for this for Christmas.  (I'm sure you'll see me passed out blue in the face from holding my breath before that lil throw is under the tree).
