Vivid Hue Guest Bedroom Makeover

I've been working on a handful of projects this summer.  I haven't been completing *any* of them quickly because I'm juggling all of them at once!  ha.  I did finally finish painting the guest bedroom.  You may recall that I fell in love with Emily Henderson's office color so I decided to paint my guest bedroom in HGTV's Sherwin William's SW6510 Loyal Blue.

Next, I scored this fabulous vintage chenille throw in turquoise and lime green from Antiques on the Farmington and this set the stage for the rest of the room.

Today, I just received my turquoise bamboo nightstands from Parker Kennedy--LOVE LOVE LOVE!

And I thought now was a great time to share with ya'll my big plans for this room...

Remember my idea to trim my lil ole mudroom in grosgrain ribbon nail head trim?  (Recall here).
I even went so far as to have ya'll vote on your favorite color for that room in "Blush or Bashful"

Well....I have decided to use the hot pink (azalea) Petersham ribbon in this guest bedroom!  I have already ordered the ribbon and the nailheads and I'm ready to jump right into this project once the supplies arrive!

Lastly, I want to add a fun Sputnik type lamp in here.  I had considered solid gold, but then found this one  by Stimulight on etsy with the turquoise tips...what do ya'll think?

PS- if you follow me on instagram, you already know that fab fuchsia chair is a find from Home Goods!  And that sailboat picture was a score from my antiquing in Kennebunkport

Happy "19th" Birthday Dad!

This is my Dad.

You may have seen him sporadically on Vivid Hue before in the past (sometimes referred to as 'Grandpa Dewey', see here).   And today we celebrate his 19th Birthday.

Let me explain.

It was on August 25, 1994 that my dad received a successful liver donation from a sixteen year old teenager.  The teenager was killed in a car accident.  At such a sad, tragic time in their own lives, the parents made a selfless decision to donate their child's organ(s). We never met the family, they had requested to remain anonymous.  But from that day forward, my dad was literally given a new, healthy life.  A second chance.  And as a result, I have been granted an additional nineteen years with my own dad...and COUNTING!

I can never repay that family for their decision.  But I can cherish every additional day I've been able to spend with my dad over these years.  Let's just say, I'm a huge advocate for organ donation.  (Please consider if you aren't already a donor).

Here's my dad with my mama in their younger days...and this summer they celebrated 44 years together.  There are so many milestones like this that we've been able to experience as a family.

Did you know:

One organ donor can save up to eight lives. The same donor can also save or improve the lives of up to 50 people by donating tissues and eyes.

In 2012, there were 14,013 Organ Donors resulting in 28,052 organ transplants.

90% of Americans say they support donation, but only 30% know the essential steps to take to be a donor.

The success rate for organ transplants is between 80 and 90 percent.

There are so many myths around organ donation.  I would urge everyone to read here for more facts about it.  I would like to request that every person consider being a donor if you're not already.  Or at least be educated enough to know the myths from the facts about donation.

Here's how you can register to be a donor.
Cheers!

Kennebunkport Vacation Home Tour

It seems strange to still be writing about the summer when fall seems to be looming in the air.  But I wanted to share one last post about our summer trip to Kennebunkport.  We stayed in a fabulous little cottage with a channel bay view on one side and an ocean view on the other.  It's on Gooch's beach in it's own little neighborhood of houses.  This was our fifth year going to Kennebunkport with the kids so it's become our family summer tradition.  It's one summer trip we look forward to because we know we can relax and expect the same familiarity in the shops and restaurants year after year.

In the mornings and evenings, the kids love to take walks on the beach when dogs are allowed to play...and every so often, we catch a glimpse of Barbara Bush walking with her dogs too!

Ahhh, now we'll have to relive the vacation for another year through the pictures.  Today, we have Vivi's Kindergarten orientation for school.  School starts for us on Monday!

Pallian and Company: Kennebunkport

I'm really dragging out my shopping tour of Kennebunkport!

So far, I've showed y'all

Spaces, my all time favorite home accessories store in Kennebunkport.  I have my eye on that Asher Market alpaca throw for my Master.

Americana where I found my turquoise crackerbox and sailboat print for the guest room.

And Antiques on Nine where I found those wonderfully colored pill boxes and brilliant pillows.

Today, it's all about Pallian and Company

This is a wonderful home accessories and gift shop located on 2049 Post Road in Wells, Maine.  (207) 646-1600.
There are rooms and rooms of fabulously styled tables filled with exceptional home accessories.  They also offer interior design.  Upstairs, there are two large rooms....on one side there is artwork that would be perfect in a chic Kennebunkport beach cottage (or anywhere for that matter).

The other side has individual beds that have been styled with high end bedding and accessories (Dash & Albert, Pine Cone Hill and more).
I fell in love with that Heron painting--it was sold!

The beach cottage where we stayed had the same bed frame from Pallian and Company in the Master bedroom and twin guest rooms (below) !

Pallian and Company is open year round.  I guarantee you will find something in here you love!  They have many kitchen cookbooks, bath accessories, an entire room for gardening and flowering.

Check out Cynthia Pallian on Pinterest here
And they have just launched the website.  Online shopping will be available soon.
