Week 6: ORC Final Reveal Boy's Room Makeover

It's finally here!  The day of the big reveal!  Week 6 of the One Room Challenge!  If you need a refresher to how we arrived here, please visit the previous weeks here:

I know that the most exciting part of today is the actual photos so I won't bore everyone with a ton of copy.  Let's get right down to business with the FINAL REVEAL.

I had a hard time getting great shots of the room with the light coming in.  This is the little sitting area I created for the kids.  They can sit at this table and do homework (yeah right) or crafts.  I also found an awesome little storage trunk at Home Goods for under the window to use as a window seat.

I think it looks old and rustic and creates a perfect little nook for the kids.  I got the little fabric flags from Easy and decided to hang above the window.

There's the rope pendant from Restoration.

Here's a reminder of where we started:

Ok, let's not revisit that horrific place!

I decided to hang the Brimfield buoy's along the bedposts of the bunkers for a bit of a vintage feel.  They give just the perfect pop of color in the room.  I'm loving the West Elm bedding against the global wallpaper!

The kids have been using their individual lights for reading before bedtime.  We'll see how long this lasts!

It's a bit difficult to tell from the photos, but the Thibaut Rodanthe wallpaper really does look like wood planks along the ceiling.

I added a bit of artwork from the kids and this rack will be a mini storage spot for their favorite toys.

The kids have been spending so much time up in this new little space, so at least my "clients" are happy!  Thank you to Linda from Calling it Home for hosting this fabulous One Room Challenge again!

Please hop over to Calling It Home to see all of the fabulous designers and their makeovers.  You will be amazed by all of the talent!

Autumn Blog Hop + ORC Makeover

Ok, ya'll.  Time to get caught up on our Autumn Blog Tour.  The Pink Clutch invited 7 design bloggers to participate over 7 days in sharing their houses decked out for fall.  Paige has become a fast and dear friend to me and I'm so thrilled that she asked Vivid Hue Home to participate.

To visit the first 3 fall homes, go here

On Day 4 of the Autumn Blog Tour,

Krystine Edwards shared her creative ways to making her Charleston home ready for "fall."  They are still having very warm weather there, so Krystine has used unique decorating ideas to provide fall accents that will work in her environment.  Here's a sneak peek, and for more, visit here:

On Day 5 of the Autumn Blog Tour,

Amanda from Dixie Delights spooked up her space for Halloween.  She's got wildly creative suggestions for decorating for the fall.  Here's a sneak peek, and visit more here.  (PS, You'll never guess what she named this little guy)

On Day 6 of the Autumn Blog Tour,

Fancy Ashley shared how she adds special touches of fall around her house.  You'll notice that she appreciates the subtle signs of fall (a fresh scented candle, or pumpkin) to introduce the new season.  And, as always, she decorates with utmost style.  Here's a sneak peek, and go here for more.

And last but not least...please be sure to check back on Friday for the Vivid Hue Home Autumn Blog Tour.

Next, there is some exciting news to share...You may remember that we participated in Calling It Home's One Room Challenge in the spring and made over the guest bedroom.  (See here).  This is the challenge where designers select one room to makeover during a 6 week period.  (Nuts and complete craziness, yes, but fun!).  Check back tomorrow because Vivid Hue Home will once again be joining the challenge as a linking participant!

Today, 20 designers have already kick started the challenge and you can see their progress here
Here is a list of the talented ladies that are involved.  You will be amazed at the talent among this group.

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see which room I will be making over.  And again on Friday for the fall décor reveal!

Cheers,
Heather

Vivid Hue Home Ottoman Giveaway!

Thank you to all of my Vivid Hue Homies who commented about the updates to my guest bedroom in my post, ORC Updates to Guest Bedroom.

Many of you inquired about the little navy and white ottoman at the foot of the bed.  This is a new addition to the room and it gives me great storage!  This adorable ottoman is from Dorel Home Products.

You may recall that we also use this guest room as my daughter Vivi's sleeping room.  This little ottoman gives me a place to "hide" all of her little toys and trinkets.  Out of sight, out of mind (until she empties its entire contents throughout the room)!   I love the modern pattern and the fabric is a plush micro fiber.  I received this product from Dorel Home Products to facilitate this review, but I was not compensated monetarily for any of my opinions.  All of my opinions are expressly my own and are an honest evaluation of this product.

And now, I have been given the opportunity to offer ya'll a chance to win an ottoman of your very own!  That's right!  I'm hosting a giveaway for the exact same navy & white storage ottoman (ok, I promise yours will be new.  Sent directly from DHP).  Read on to find out how:

Here's How to Enter for a Chance to Win:

Of course, if you mention this giveaway on your own blog, facebook, twitter or instagram, I'll love you dearly.

The last day for entries is Monday July 14, 2014. The winner will be chosen via Rafflecopter and announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

Only United States residents residents are eligible to participate.

The ottoman will be the navy and white storage ottoman as pictured in this post.  It will be new and shipped directly to the winner by DHP.

Good luck and please spread the word!

ORC Updates to Guest Room

Earlier this year, I made a major update to my guest bedroom.  Ya'll may recall that this was the room I selected to makeover for the Calling It Home One Room Challenge.   And my initial reveal for this room showed a Bohemian Chic meets Hollywood Regency transformation

The room went from a basic gray drab palette to dark navy walls (Sherwin William's SW6510 Loyal Blue) and a turquoise striped ceiling with a sputnik chandelier.  I loved the update, but I could never quite get the DIY turquoise ceiling stripes out of my head.  They were fun and daring but cheaply executed (by me).  I immediately embarked on my next mission of replacing those darned stripes with a more professional finish.  (aka, had to find the wallpaper of my dreams and then convince the husband to pay for the stuff).  Below, I'll take you through the latest transformation with this room.

Initial reveal after the March 2014 One Room Challenge:

And voila!  Here's the latest.  I fell in love with Meg Braff's Roxy print.  (I'm a huge Meg Braff fan and have her 'Up In a Tree' Kelly Green paper in my mudroom, here).  The paper definitely gives a much more professionally decorated look to the room.

I also swapped out the previous sear sucker duvet for Trina Turk's Huntington Stripe Duvet

And added a few additional throw pillows for some pop.

A little reminder of Kennebunkport... (See why I love this place so much here).

What are your thoughts about this room?  What do you love?  What do you hate?  Do you think my guests will have a hard time falling to sleep at night?  Any changes you'd make to this room?
I'd love to hear your feedback!

Also, check back soon for an exciting giveaway that I'll be featuring on my site!

ORC: Week 6 Final Reveal- Guest Bedroom

Thank you for joining me for the final reveal of the One Room Challenge!  If you're just joining, you can catch up with my guest bedroom transformation here:

Week 1   |  Week 2    |  Week 3     |  Week 4   |  Week 5  |  Week 5 1/2Week 5 3/4

The past six weeks have been an adventure.  One lesson I learned for next time is that I need to tackle my sub-projects much earlier!  I was worried about revealing too much too soon.  Instead, this was a "down to the final minute" finish.

But, I won't bore you with any more small talk.  Today, it's all about the pictures.  (Speaking of which, please excuse the night time shots!)

Introducing, my Bohemian Chic/ Palm Beach Guest Room:

I hadn't planned to do a gallery wall but my five year old daughter also sleeps in this guest room each night (it's closer to our master), so I wanted to add a touch of something that would have meaning and represent her.  I selected a few quotes that reminded me of her, some photos of her that I love and some artwork that she painted.

I added this pom pom fringe to the curtains when I realized that I was going to have to rethink my plan to put ribbon nail head trim around the room (because the Petersham ribbon was on back order since August).

I just found this stool today at Home Goods and fell in love.  It's perfect for this room and I love it!

I'm Home Goods obsessed.  The chair is also from there and I love how it pops against the blue walls.

The wallpapered ceiling was not originally in my design plan either.  It all comes back to that back ordered Petersham ribbon.  I wanted to add something else of interest so decided to try removable wallpaper.  See previous posts to learn how it ended up as stripes versus a solid color on the ceiling.

That Stimulight Urchin Chandelier continues to be the focal point of the room.
It's definitely a show stopper!
