Home Office Makeover Update

I thought it was time I give ya'll progress on one of the projects I've been working on.  Several weeks ago, my friend Lucy asked me to help her update her home office before starting her new job.  She wanted a major face lift that would inspire her and make her happy while doing her new power job from home.  Of course, I immediately looked to my design crush, Maria Barros, for inspiration.   Lucy took one look at the fabulous Portuguese designer's work and agreed that this would be our inspiration for the job.

We wanted a light blue palette on the walls with white office essentials accessorized with bright cheery pops of color.

I created this design board and we were off!
The original room color was a dark dusty blue color and required a primer before we painted the room with HGTV's Sherwin William's Lauren's Surprise in Flat.    You can recall the original post where I showed us painting the room...

AFTER:  A much lighter base for the room!

Here is another photo of the room "before."  It was decorated in very earthy tones with neutral colors.  (There's my Vivster...she's been a tremendous design expert on this project).

Previously, the desk was positioned by the window.  Lucy has a guest bed in the room for her occasional weekend guests.  I reconsidered the layout and thought it may be nice to position the bed against the window (as a daybed) and put the new desk across the room facing the window looking out.
Here's a shot of the room after the painting was done before we'd found any of the bedding.  It definitely is lighter in the room even with the old bedding.   We also painted all of the wood trim to white--this gave the room an immediate face lift!

Pictured below is the vintage flower painting that Lucy's parent's have had in the family for years!  I was determined to find a place in the room for that!  I instantly fell in love with it when I spotted it sitting in Lucy's unfinished basement!  It's to die for...It has so much character and you just can't find that in artwork that is purchased *new* from a store.

Another BEFORE shot of the room before we got our hands on it.  Originally we considered repurposing Lucy's "Mork and Mindy" egg chair (I'm dating myself) but in the end...this white egg chair got the boot and got replaced by an excellent Lucite Louis Armless Chair that Lucy scored for a steal (more on that later).

The pink dots indicate our plans for the room....

I was shopping in Home Goods one day and came across this bedding...it was fun and cheery and had our colors in it.  I loved it instantly and wanted it for my own (which is a "test" I use to gauge my confidence level with how something will work in a room.  ha.  Corny, I know.  But if I *really* want something for myself, then I feel confident enough to give it as a gift or buy it for someone else.

In fact, I scoured all of Home Goods that day and here's a glimpse of some of my findings.  Ikat, Chevron, basket weave, colors, guest towels, storage baskets, throw pillows, duvets, trash baskets, you name it...I bought it!

And here is a little peak into how we're coming along with the room!
Better photos and more styling and a better finished product to follow....This snapshot just gives you an idea of the path that we're on!  We've got to tend to some finishing touches and details so don't judge!!!

And this is definitely still in progress...chords are showing, lamp shade liners are pointing the wrong way and book shelves aren't styled.  But you can see an idea of where this is going.

I will share product sources in the final room reveal!  We've been so resourceful in this room remodel and have managed to find these items on a great budget.  Many of the items are from Home Goods or Overstock and they're less money than you can imagine!   (Course I can say that because it's not *my* money)!

Glider Winner Announced + More

Thanks to all for entering the Storkcraft Glider giveaway!  And the lucky winner of that giveaway is...
glider winner

Tomorrow, I am thrilled to announce that Vivid Hue's nursery design will be featured for the wonderful surprise giveaway!  You'll have to check back tomorrow to see the design that I did (think Miami chic and lots of fun color).

Also, a mini progress update on the guest bedroom that I've been painting...remember the smurftastic Sherwin Williams Loyal Blue room that I decided to mirror after Emily Henderson's office?  (recall here).

Here are some sloppy iphone photos of the progress I've made in the room.  The walls were so thirsty for this luscious blue that I used an entire two gallons in no time.  I kept going over with coats and coats of paint and still finding holes.  I must admit, there is one small corner by the door that still needs to be finished (which ranks this as the LONGEST ongoing project ever).  It's just not fun to finish up the job when I want to be done with it!  I need a good thirty minutes in there and that will do the trick!  I'll post better photos once that's completed.

In the meantime, I scored a fun hot pink side chair at Home Goods with nail head trim.  I also bought this fun pillow thinking it had feathers on the front then I got home and my 5 and 6 year olds pointed out that they were 'hot lips.'  It makes me like it even more!

Hot pink is going to be my accessory color in the room!  I think it will look fab against the blue.
I also have my eye on the Coqo Floral Curtains in Navy from Anthropologie.  They're made of a nice linen with a velvet navy design.  The linen would tie in the wheat color from the headboard.

I'm on the hunt for some crisp white side tables.  I have plenty of designer brands in mind but I'd like to find some on the cheap for this room.

And don't forget, I've still got my mudroom makeover...I'm going to order that ribbon trim and get that project back off the ground!

And I'll be posting an update on Lucy's home office progress soon...

Ah, so many balls juggling but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Check back tomorrow to see my nursery styling and the next babycafe giveaway!

Home Office Makeover

My friend Lucy recently asked if I'd help her redesign her home office before she starts her new job.  As ya'll know, I'm not a trained designer by profession but I jumped at the opportunity to design a room on someone else's dime!  Miss Lucy started with an Earth tone palette and wanted something a bit cheerier.  I have earned a bit of a reputation for being "color loving" and so when someone wants to add a pop of color to their space, I'm the person for the job!  (Samples of my color lovin in my own home...turquoise sunroom, Kelly green mudroom, ocean blue office, yellow and pink master ).

This week, we have tackled the painting of the office so I thought I'd share that progress.
Here's where we started.  The room was a dark dusty blue with wood molding.  Definitely needed a primer.

And here are the photos after our day 1 of painting.  We painted the room HGTV's Sherwin William's Lauren's Surprise in Flat.   We used a prime white satin finish on the baseboards and molding.  The paint alone immediately transformed the room into a cheerier and happier place.

Here are the after photos.

The floral oil painting is a 1970's vintage that Lucy's parents purchased in the Hamptons.  I spotted it hiding in her basement and immediately fell in love with it!  I'm not sure if there will be a place for it in the finished office but I'm sure going to try to factor it in.  I love it!

We're using my ultimate favorite design crush as our inspiration for this room remodel, the Portuguese designer Ms. Maria Barros.  It's going to be hard to top Maria's designs but she is the inspiration.  Regular followers will also notice Jennifer's artwork from The Pink Pagoda...yes, hoping for a place in the room for her fabulous artwork (more can be found on etsy here).  Here's my mood board for the room.

I'll be sharing more updates as we progress on the room.  We've got the rug in the room already (from Overstock.com).   The X Writing Desk is on it's way!  The Hot Pink Pom Pom Throw is from One King's Lane and will be a great pop of color for an accessory.   This room also acts as an occasional guest bedroom so there is a twin bed in here.  We're looking for bedding and coordinating chevrons.

This is so much fun.

And remember the guest bedroom that I started painting in HGTV's Sherwin William's Loyalty Blue?  Yes, I've still got that iron in the fire...The room is 95% complete.  I just have some trim work to finish and then I'll post update photos of that room.  The smurfiness has toned down a bit and I am loving the deep jewel tone.
