Epic Estate Sale in CT this Thursday!

Connecticut readers, get ready for the most epic estate sale.

Remember my post about the fanciest tag sale in Connecticut?   Well get ready because Greenhill House is at it again.  This time, with an estate sale.  Krystian is  relocating to Palm Beach and, while I'm selfishly sad to see him go, he is leaving plenty of fabulous finds behind for all of us!

This sale is THURSDAY August 27th, 2015 starting at 8am.  And plan to get there early because there are sure to be crowds.

Greenhill House Estate Sale
1210 Prospect Avenue
West End Hartford, Connecticut
8am Start
Cash, Check + Credit Cards accepted

Sale runs from Thursday thru Sunday!

Krystian was kind enough to give me a sneak peak of the sale items today.  Check out below for a preview into some of the goodies you'll find.

Krystian has hired a professional event company to orchestrate the entire event.  This is sure to be an "event" you won't want to miss.  I love this Chippendale arm chair.

And this marigold bamboo umbrella stand is to die for!

There is an entire bed of throw pillows--everything from custom to needlepoint to one of a kind to floral...You name it.  All unique in style and would seriously up the glam factor of a sofa or side chair.

There are wonderful pieces of furniture including this studded dresser.

I was drooling over this bamboo etagere.  Sadly, I left it behind because I don't currently have a place for it.

There are table lamps and fine art (some originally $600 and up now selling for $250).  You can spend some serious time going through the many art books and coffee table books.

The views of the estate are exquisite.  Located on Governor's Row, there are mansions after mansions all finely manicured and kept.

I have always loved Krystian's sense of style.  He dresses impeccably well and his is allowing shoppers access to an entire roomful of his tailored jackets, ties, dress shirts, dress shoes, pants.  It would be a gentleman's dream!   There are remnant fabrics and fur throws and Staffordshire Dogs.

If you live in Connecticut I highly recommend you fit this into your schedule tomorrow.  I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Krystian is now a contributor for House Beautiful magazine.  I am so envious of the fun projects he'll get to work on in the Palm Beach area!  It will be sad not to have him  close by in Connecticut anymore, but this just means a road trip to Palm Beach is in order!

Wishing KvS the best of travels during the next week.
Cheers and martinis!  Until next time.

Wanted: Faux Bamboo Chandlier

I am absolutely insanely obsessed with bamboo chandeliers.  Call them what you want:  Pagoda, Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Faux Bamboo Lanterns.  I. Want. One.

I have been obsessively searching every consignment and thrift store in Connecticut in search for a deal.  These babies offer quite the range in price.  For example, 1st dibs, has sold a Red Pagoda Chandelier by Pieces for $1750.  Meanwhile, Shades of Light offers a 6 light lantern for $495 and a 4 light lantern for $189.

Even better, if you're lucky enough to score one at a consignment shop, you can sometimes get them for even less.  But you need to be at the right place at the right time...and if you ever see one and don't want it for yourself, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

My gal Elizabeth from The Little Black Door found hers at a thrift store and painted it cherry red.  (Photo below and also here).

And Ms. Jennifer from The Pink Pagoda found her amazing chandelier at a consignment shop and had a professional painter add a faux bamboo finish to it.  The outcome is just incredible.  Hard to imagine it's not original bamboo.   (Photo below and read more about it here and here).

One thing's for sure, these are a hot commodity.  Here are some of my favorite:

Red Pagoda 1st Dibs | Pieces $1750

Shades of Light $495

Pink Pagoda

Vintage Hollywood Regency Faux

Peacock Feathers
Circa Who
Gus and Lula

What are your thoughts?

Do you have a favorite chandelier?  Have you found a bargain on your own?  Does anyone have a spare you're willing to ship to Connecticut?

Parker Kennedy in Atlanta Showhouse

Lance Jackson and David Ecton of Parker Kennedy are at it again.
I originally shared their absolutely brilliant style with ya'll last summer (recall here).
These gentlemen have continued to take the design world by storm.  They are currently featured in The Atlantan January 2013 issue, "Prepped for Success."

This weekend, Parker Kennedy has debuted a fabulous room in an Atlanta, Georgia Show House.  It's part of the Cathedral Antiques Show & Tour of Homes.

I have been tracking this living room progress on Lance and David's facebook page and I wanted to share the beautiful results with you here.

Here is C.R. Laine's wonderful navy Jack sofa.  Love the lines and those pillows pop against the navy!   (I'm a HUGE fan of C.R. Laine...they always have such wonderful style.  Check out some of their items from High Point Market this year, yes total tangent!)

Custom pink pillows with navy Greek key trim, the navy sofa is CR Laine's Jack sofa.
Parker Kennedy uses a fun mix of chinoiserie and modern elements.  I love the addition of the pink juju hat above the fireplace!  (PS. there is a seagrass rug underneath the plastic protective cover!)

These little puppies are at the warehouse getting ready for delivery.  (And you can get a better look of that fanned peacock looking chair and its vibrant colors in the warehouse photo).  Can you imagine how it looks in the show house room!?  BRILLIANT! Look at that pink and navy ceiling!  Really makes the room pop!  For more fun about painting the ceiling of a room, read here

Install, day 1.  Lantern just starting out.  This will add character to the room!

Here are David and Lance at the preview party (pictured with a friend of theirs).  All photos courtesy of Parker Kennedy Facebook page

The show house is located in the heart of Buckhead on East Andrews drive.  If anyone is local to the ATL area, you should stop in and see this incredible display.  (Atlanta's Cathedral Inspiration Showhouse 2013).

One of the many things I love about David and Lance's design style is their mix of Palm Beach vintage-chic and modern elements. They frequently travel to Palm Beach and scour flea markets for undiscovered treasures and then bring them back to their Atlanta showroom where they refinish them like new.   I frequently go to their facebook page and review their newest findings and just drool.  One of these day's I'm going to make my way down to see them at their space at Scott's Antique Market.

Check back tomorrow!  I'm going to share some of my personal favorites from the Parker Kennedy collection.

xoxo

'Home Goods' Heaven

For those of you that know Vivid Hue Home by now, you know that we are HUGE lovers of One King's Lane.  Ok.  Huge may even be an understatement

There are many of these "exclusive", "by invitation only" online storefronts that have popped up over the last few years (read more here).  But, One King's Lane continues to be my go to.  I've found everything from Trina Turk Pillows, Massimo Vitali Artwork, Designer's Guild Accessories, and unique character accessories for any home
Trina Turk

Now here's where I'll contradict myself.

As enamored as I am with the offerings from OKL, I have also discovered that it pays to know the value of what you're shopping for.   Many of the discount retailers purchase their goods from the same manufacturers.  So what you find on One King's Lane one day, may also appear on the shelves of Marshalls/Home Goods the next.  And they are often the same items.  At different price points.   (And I bet you've already guessed which store is more expensive...ahem...OKL).

Example:
The turquoise table was featured on One King's Lane recently.  It's a World's Away Studly Dresser that retails at $340, on sale at OKL for $149.  Good deal.  (And LOVE the color).

Here's a Moroccan Studly Table (not World's Away and not turquoise) but with the exact same features and brushed nail head details.  I saw this at Home Goods this week for $29.99.

Don't get me wrong, you will probably never find Trina Turk or Designer's Guild at Home Goods.  But some of the accessories with non-descript brands are undoubtedly found there.   Keep your eyes peeled next time you're browsing Home Goods and keep an open mind for what you might find.

Here are the other great things I discovered on my recent trip to Home Goods:

This high backed butterfly settee may seem over the top but I actually contemplated putting it in the corner of one of my guest bedrooms (paired with blue and white sear sucker stripes).  I love the butterfly pattern and can envision this accessorized with contrasting pillows.  (Remember the butterfly mania prediction?)  $499

This side console is very weathered and 'Old Worldly.'  Not the style of my own home, but I recognize a good accessory when I see one.  The same piece could be spotted in an antique shop.  And if you have a passion for Moroccan style decor, this would be an awesome accessory for only $499.

This rug was super stylish in person.  Same Moroccan theme but with great teals, jute and turquoise shades and the quality of the rug itself was a durable loop hole (sometimes the rugs at Home Goods LOOK less expensive).  This 8X10 was $399 and would really make a statement in a room.

I had this long farm-looking basket in my cart and ready to purchase for $59!  I fell in love with the length and the rustic red that looks like it was painted decades ago and then forgotten about in your Grandpa's shed I could envision this on my long kitchen table (see below)...just a subtle accent of red to match the burgundy ottoman in the living room.    Hmmm.  now I'm wondering why I put the thing backExcept, in full disclosure, these feelings of "must have" happen quite frequently and I would become a hoarder if I purchased everything I fell in love with!

This orange lacquer Chinoiserie box had my name on it too.  Wouldn't it be cute on a dresser in a guest bedroom as a pop of color?  Only $14.99

There is nothing better than real flowers in the house.  But I must admit, they make some decent fakes these days and these faux cacti caught my eye because they looked so real.  I would set them outside on my patio table and not have to worry about the heat getting to them all summer long.  And at $11.99, it's worth it not to have to worry about keeping another thing alive (I already have to remember to feed and bathe the kids, yah know! <<sarcasm of course!!!!>>)

And lastly, I hate clutter that is out in the open for guests to view.  So what do I do?  I stick all of my clutter in organization boxes like these.  Sure, the inside looks like the worst kind of junk drawer.  But that's why these beauties come with lids!  Hey, no one should see your dirty laundry.  These started as low as $11.99.  Imagine how perky they'd be in a laundry room, a kids room or even out in the open!

This was a fun trip for me.  And my husband loved it because (for once) I walked away without actually making a single purchase (in this store anyway!)

The lesson learned is not to undermine the possibilities for home decor in your local Marshalls, Home Goods, Target or TJ Maxx.  These stores are getting serious about competing affordably in a 'discount-saavy' market and the quality of their offerings has become very competitive.  Save One King's Lane for your higher-end designer brand purchases!
