One Room Challenge: Week 3 Evaluate...

Welcome back to the One Room Challenge!  This is Week 3 of a 6 week room makeover challenge.  If you are new here, thank you so much for visiting.  You can catch up by visiting here

Week 3.  This is the week I like to call "Evaluate...and Procrastinate"

I'm making over my guest bedroom in a sort of Bohemian Chic meets Palm Beach.
I thought I had so many wonderful ideas at the start of this.  I'm still enthusiastic, but a bit discouraged that I'm starting to veer off course.

Here's an assessment of where things stand:

Remember my fabulous Turquoise Urchin Chandelier?

Here's an update:   Yep.  Still in the box.  I'm waiting for my electrician's schedule to free up so he can get to the house to install it!  He KNOWS this is One Room Challenge time!  He *promised* he could do the install within this time frame.  And I'm just crossing my fingers that this baby gets hung in the next 3 weeks.  This will be the *statement* for the room.  Don't make me get my hammer and screws out and nail this sucker to the ceiling!   (Reference from Week 2).

I had a surprise up my sleeve that involved this slab of turquoise: (no, I'm not telling what it is, but this is an *actual photo crop* of the secret item).  Let's just say, I think this surprise twist is going to turn out to be a complete FLOP.  I'm going to have to rethink this.  Bummer!

I was able to find a few table lamps for the nightstands.  I tried to find as simple as possible because that sputnik lamp doesn't need any other competition in the room!  I originally posted a photo of the entire lamp but I decided I'm going to make ya'll wait at least another week to see them.
(I know the suspense is killing you)

I haven't even attempted to hang my window hardware or drapes.  (Though they HAVE been purchased!!!)    I've been procrastinating in hanging them.  The blinds did me in.  Plus I'm charging my drill extra long this time.

Still no ribbon for the ribbon trim.  Thank you Ms. Lisa Mende for giving me some options of where to purchase Petersham ribbon elsewhere!

And now, in true procrastinating fashion, I thought I'd share with you some pillows I purchased for my sunroom today while I was supposed to be shopping for items for the guest room!   In true Vivid Hue fashion, I spotted the pillows.  Fell in love with them.  And then tried to figure out which room in the house they would fit in.  I decided I could switch some pillows out in the sun room for a bit.   Here's what I ended up with:

Pssst, there's the bamboo magazine holder that I got at *the fanciest tag sale in Connecticut*

I guarantee I will have more work done next week for the next reveal!  I'd BETTER!  Time is ticking away.  Please check back next week.  And in the meantime, check out the other participants from the One Room Challenge.  In addition to the below, there are over 70 that are participating in the linking challenge (like me).  You can access those from Linda's Calling It Home

Fanciest Tag Sale in CT

Today, I went to the ultimate tag sale.  This is the fanciest tag sale I've ever been to.
Krystian Von Speidel and Nathan Frank live in the exclusive West End of Hartford, Connecticut.  It's lined with tree covered streets and acres of mansions.  Known as "Governor's Row" because it's where the Governor's mansion is located.  Each estate is more eye dropping than the next.  So yes, the idea of attending a "tag sale" among this "riff Raf",  well...I somehow found it within myself to show up.

Greenhill Estate, Home of Krystian Von Speidel and Nathan Frank

I tweeted @kvonspeidel to let him know I was around the corner and upon my arrival he greeted me, "Vivid Hue!  Would you like a glass of wine?"  How's THAT for a top notch host?  As I walked up the gravel pathway, two finely dressed gentlemen were leaving in Italian custom tailored suits, one was navy with a fabulous pink pastel tie.  I'm telling ya'll.  This was a dapper tag sale.

This Palm Beach Peacock Chair greeted me.  I wanted desperately to take it home with me...but my house is starting to burst at the seams.  I didn't  know where I'd put it.  So I had to admire it from afar.  What a beauty.

Krystian gave me a tour of Greenhill.  This is what he calls his estate.  Uh...hello, Veranda, Vogue, House Beautiful, where are you?  This place is magazine worthy!  Yes, my boy Krystian is in the industry but this space is ready to be photographed!  CT Home and Garden, New England Home, At Home, et, al.  Seriously, it's no wonder why there were so many drool-worthy items outside for sale...the inside of the house is filled with gems!

I bought this fabulous bamboo magazine holder for my sun room.  And the below mid-century magazine holder caught my eye.  It was sitting on a fabulous table that had potential.   A bit of paint and refurbishment and this could be a stunner!

And the bamboo easel...MINE!  I spotted one in Kennebunkport and desperately wanted it, but they wanted too much money for it.  When I saw it today, I knew it was meant to be.

These little Dalmatians would have made great little character accessories on bookshelf or nightstand.

And here are the boys...(Krystian isn't pictured) but Nathan is on the far right.  These boys were having a blast, bargaining like crazy, making a celebration out of the day and having a good ole fashioned time.  What a way to throw a tag sale!
Tag Sale Hosts

And I've saved the best for last...I drooled when I saw this Bamboo Bar Cart!  Perfection!

And then, I spotted this SOLD sign  "Sold, Governor Malloy."  Yes.  Our Connecticut Governor.  And when I told Krystian that I was dying for that cart, he offered it right up to me.  (Apparently, Mr. Malloy was willing to part with it if a desperate patron came along...and well, that would be me).  But, really, I decided to be a great Connecticut citizen and let the good ole Governor have it.  I'm looking for a bar cart that's a bit more formal for my dining room.

And wouldn't these bar accessories be great too!??

Lastly, even though everyone in the Connecticut and New York surrounding area may already know Mr. Krystian Von Speidel, I wanted to show the rest of my readers how handsome he is.

I had a ball stopping in to this tag sale.  This crew threw one heck of a party, er...I mean sale!  They had the perfect items to draw the right crowd.  The location was amazeballs.  The day couldn't have been a more perfect fall day in Connecticut.  I'm thrilled with my magazine rack and easel.

By the way, the Lamps.com giveaway is OVER and the winner will be announced on Monday! September 16th!

Vivid Hue meets Parker Kennedy!

Where in the world has this month gone?  Earlier this month, I went to visit my sister Kurby in Atlanta and welcome my precious new little nephew into this world.   I came back from my five days in Atlanta with bunches of things to chat about and, before I could do that, my family jumped on a plane that very next weekend for another excursion.

I've been playing catch up ever since!  And I haven't had a chance to share one of the best parts of my Atlanta trip.  (Aside from meeting my awesome nephew Townes, and spending time with my other adorable nephew Jude, and catching up with my sister and B-I-L).

There was cool design-related stuff that we managed to fit into the mix during my visit too...

1.  I went to Scott's Antique Market for the first time ever.

2. I got to meet Lance and David of Parker Kennedy!

3. I also got to meet one of my blogger buddy soul mates, Dorothy Burke while at Scott's!

4.  Did I mention that I met Lance and David in real live person??  (Promise, I'm not a stalker, ya'll).  PS- Unfortunately, David isn't pictured here.

and Here's PROOF

Pictured My sister "kurby" (Brett), Dorothy Burke, Me, and Lance of Parker Kennedy

ok...everyone probably wonders what in the hay is the big deal about this.  But let me tell you that I absolutely adore everything about Parker Kennedy and if you read my blog, this should be very apparent.    Here was my first introduction to Parker Kennedy on Vivid Hue Home.

(For those that need to be brought up to speed...take a minute out from reading to check this out:  You can see a snapshot of the fabulous finds they offer here.   And then if you missed their room in the Atlanta tour of homes, visit here .

I was over the moon when I learned I would be visiting Atlanta during the exact same weekend as Scott's Antiques.  And even MORE thrilled when I found out that Dorothy Burke* would be manning the Parker Kennedy booth.  And then it was icing on the cake when I learned that Lance and David themselves were there too.  (*Dorothy is from the same part of Connecticut where I currently live and we have recently become friends when she befriended me via my blog over a post I wrote about the Parker Kennedy show house.  What a stitch.  So cool when you make awesome connections via the blogging world).

Take a peak at some of the kick arse stuff  Parker Kennedy had on hand the day I visited (be sure to read the very bottom  of this post for some secrets):

Lance and David were busy bees when I was there.  They were almost completely cleared out of inventory from selling so much and Lance had found some super cool finds at the market that day that he was having carried over to the booth.  These gentlemen are truly talented at selecting items with panache!  And it seems they will be needing to stock up on their inventory, because in the near future, they will be featured as Tastemakers on One Kings Lane!  Date is yet to be determined, but be on the look out for Parker Kennedy in the near future!  (Believe me, I will shout it from the roof tops!)

And lastly, I knew there was a reason I fell in love with these fellas from the moment I laid eyes on their style.  I was leafing through photos for this post and recognized that I share their love of Palm Beach/ Hollywood Regency.  (Not like that just dawned on me).  But check out my master bedroom nightstand on the left.  And then the Parker Kennedy Scott's booth on the right.  We've both got the Pagoda Lamps and Lacquered Boxes and Yellow accents and vibrant color.  Ahh, yes, soul mates

PS- That small oil painting hanging in the back behind my blue lamp was a score from Scott's that day!

For more information on Parker Kennedy, please visit their facebook page here.  They are growing so fast ya'll, they are in the process of updating their website right now so it will be super chic and wonderful for us.   These are the most down to earth gentlemen you will meet.

In Atlanta:
1. Parker Kennedy is a at Scott's in the South Building, Isle I-7
2. Visit their retail and designer showroom at 1227 Logan Circle (By Appt: (404) 431-8632)

They have multiple warehouses and locations.

For those of you in North Carolina, you are in luck!
3. Visit Cotswold Market Place (See Cotswold Facebook Page here).
4. Visit Slate Interiors (Visit Slate facebook page here)

5.  Look for them as Tastemakers on One Kings Lane
6. Visit them at High Point Market (They accessorized the CR Laine  Showroom in the Fall 2012)

Golden Girl Glory

Remember Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia?
Ah, the glorious Golden Girls spent their retirement lounging in their Florida condo drinking coffee and gossiping.

I love vintage Palm beach decor...
basket weave and palm leaves
trellis and wicker

There's something nostalgic yet refreshing about it.

Like Betty White,
never quite goes out of style...
