Visit: Americana Workshop, Kennebunk ME

Hope ya'll have had fun this week joining me on a virtual journey to Spaces | Kennebunkport and Antiques on Nine .

I was over the moon thrilled this year because EG agreed to take the kids on a lobster cruise for a few hours and free me up for the morning.  It was better than any spa package he could have given me.  I headed to H.B. Provisions my iced latte and proceeded to hit about thirty antique stores in the matter of hours.  (Maybe a slight exaggeration but for once, I was able to stop at any place along the road and actually peruse through the aisles as long as I wanted!)

Along my trek, I visited Americana Workshop, located at 111 York Street in Kennebunk, Maine (207-985-8356).   This store had a good mix of antique collections on one side of the shop mixed with reproductions and refinished products.  The other side of the shop was filled with very country style furnishings (beautiful for those who love a colonial style home).  I found two of my favorite things here (and I found that prices at Americana were much better than some of the surrounding shops who had clearly added some dollars for the Kennebunkport zip code).

Here's what I found:

1. "Sehati" Red/Turquoise Cracker Box $65:

I had just purchased the below striped red and turquoise shower curtain from the Crate and Barrel Outlet for the kid's bathroom so when I saw the cracker box, it all came together!  I'm going to put it on the bathroom vanity.   (PS- I saw these cracker boxes at other stores I visited that day for $85 so this was a "steal" for me).

2.  The Sailboat Print $95

I was on the hunt for a piece of art that I could use in the guest bedroom that I'm making over.  For some reason, I had a sailboat or ocean on my mind.  I saw this picture and loved it but didn't ask the price and left the store without it.  Then I kept thinking about it that night and became obsessed with purchasing it "for the right price" the next day.  I had seen others for $150-$950 during my shopping so when I found out this one was $95 AND I loved it....it was a win/ win!

And here's an update on the items I've been collecting for the guest bedroom so far:

(PS--Those turquoise bamboo nightstands are coming my way from Parker Kennedy Living and I can't wait baybee!!!)

I have another store that I'll be reviewing soon...but I wanted to share with you a few other photos from my shopping that day:

I have been drawn to bird cages lately!!!  (Recall Antiques on Nine's Pagoda Cage)  I loved this one and thought it would be super cool turned into a Pendant lamp. (Selling for $65)

This 1970's Cambodian Pendant Lamp is currently being sold on One King's Lane right now for $1149 and I could easily have wired a pendant light through the cage.  But...it just seemed like too much work at the time and I left it behind.

I am also uber drawn to cranes lately (recall my purchase from Blaze and Bloom).  I instantly loved this crane spotted in XXXXXXXX but there were two things that prevented me from purchasing it.

1. Price.  The owner wanted $175 and while this bird is a beauty, it still poops just the same as my fabulous crane that I bought from Blaze and Bloom for $35.

2.  The Owner's Take on Design Blog "Advertising".  I was very upfront and asked permission to take photos in the shop (reply, "yes), but when the owner discovered I was a blogger, she told me that she didn't want "that kind of advertising" about her shop.  No problem.  So I have withheld the name, location, and any positive comments I would have mentioned.  And I will make sure not to post any links to her website page so that my few thousand visitors a day NEVER hear about her shop.  Ever.

After my morning of shopping, I met the family for some beach time.  Here's a self portrait that Jack and I took of ourselves after we'd walked to the very end of the jetty on Gooch's beach.  (I know I'm getting old because I saw my life flash before my eyes a handful of times as we were hopping from rock to rock inching further and further out to sea and away from land).  Good times though!

Shop Slate Interiors

Ya'll know that I think the world of Parker Kennedy Living.

Lance is the creative generous behind this wonderful duo and he mentioned awhile back that I should check out Slate Interiors.   Slate Interiors is a destination shop for all things brilliant (my words not theirs).  After checking out the items they feature, you'll surely agree.  Let me be clear...they didn't coerce me to do this review.  As I always say, I just know a great think when I see it...and you'll drool when you spot the offerings of Slate's almost 90 merchants and artists.

As their site describes, "We carry a daily-changing collection of original art, furniture, lighting, and accessories. A favorite “go-to” for designers, locals, and out-of-towners, we are a unique venue for curating remarkably individual, stand-out spaces at truly affordable prices".

And yes, Parker Kennedy is one of the merchants.  A win-win!  How did those folks in Charlotte get so dang lucky?  They get all of the good shops!!!  Check out some of what Slate Interiors has to offer....

Mirror Mirror in Bamboo Green

I have a new addition to my mudroom bathroom.  I found this little gem on a recent trip to Antiques on the Farmington.  I'd never been to this two store antique barn house before (even though it's a mere twenty minute drive from my house).  I spotted this bamboo mirror and immediately thought of Parker Kennedy.  And Kelly Green.  And my mudroom bathroom.   For $80 bucks I knew I could turn this into something.

I bought a sample size of Valspar Bright Parrot Satin Color ($2.98, can't go wrong!).  Ya'll know my DIY style by now...I don't prep or sand my projects.  I just jump right in.   I started sticking this paint right on top of the old gold paint.  Sure, it was tough to stick at first so I dabbed a rought version of a top coat and let it dry.  Then I went back with the brush and could get a smoother second and third coat of the green.  The sample sizes only come in limited finishes (satin) so I added an extra gloss with some clear polyurethane that I had from a previous DIY project.  This gave the finished green a shiny coat.

Up close of the bamboo mirror in the mudroom bathroom.  Keep in mind, this bathroom has not been styled yet because I've been focusing so much on the mudroom itself.  But this Bright Parrot green is going to go great with the Meg Braff green from the wallpaper in the mudroom.  Eventually I'll think of something great for the wall in here (thinking a solid paint color other than beige).

I borrowed my Gurglepot from Kennebunkport for this shot.  And the below view from the mudroom into the bathroom reminds me from a scene down the long narrow hotel hallway of The Shining or something!  Again, the bathroom is not styled yet except for the lone bamboo mirror so bear that in mind!  But you can see how the mirror now ties in with the green from the mudroom.

And here's the lil ole mirror that was in there before.  (Along with a photobomb from the vivster in the below left part of the mirror).

Entire project was under $85.

Coming soon, I have received two grosgain ribbon trims for the nailhead ribbon project I'm going to do in the mudroom and I want your opinion on which color to use!  Get ready to vote, ya'll!

Hope you had a wonderful memoria day weekend!

My Parker Kennedy Faves

This weekend I drooled over Parker Kennedy's Living Room in the Atlanta Cathedral Inspiration Showhouse 2013.  No, you sillies.  I didn't actually tour the house in person.  I *wish.*  (Except, I'm all the way in Connecticut).  I would send my sister, Kurby, to do the task but she's about 15 months preggo with baby number two.  So we toured the fabulous room vicariously through photos that I've been stalking on their facebook page.

As promised, today, I'm sharing with you some of my favorite Parker Kennedy items.  They find the best character pieces.  I literally scour their pages just waiting to stake my claim.  I must warn you, though...their finds are so darn wonderful that they go quickly.  If you even *think* you may be interested in something, reach out to David or Lance and inquire about the item because the best stuff tends to disappear in a hit minute.  My recommendation is to always ask because even if they may no longer have something that is pictured, they could have something in the showroom or warehouse that they've just got in that could be a great back up!  (And if you live locally, even better...get your butt to Scott's or one of their show rooms and see this stuff in person!).

Here are some of my favorites!

Vintage Pagoda Lamp

It's hard to really tell from this photo, but these bamboo stools have a shade of pink to them!  Pink mixed with the blue and white chevron is perfect!

Fully restored vintage bamboo console and matching stools.

Do you have a favorite piece above?  What do you like about the style?

Rumor has it that Parker Kennedy is working with One King's Lane so I'd be on the lookout for a sale in the near future!  You never know, maybe even some of these finds will be featured there!

In the meantime, visit the Parker Kennedy facebook page to keep tabs on their latest finds.

Parker Kennedy in Atlanta Showhouse

Lance Jackson and David Ecton of Parker Kennedy are at it again.
I originally shared their absolutely brilliant style with ya'll last summer (recall here).
These gentlemen have continued to take the design world by storm.  They are currently featured in The Atlantan January 2013 issue, "Prepped for Success."

This weekend, Parker Kennedy has debuted a fabulous room in an Atlanta, Georgia Show House.  It's part of the Cathedral Antiques Show & Tour of Homes.

I have been tracking this living room progress on Lance and David's facebook page and I wanted to share the beautiful results with you here.

Here is C.R. Laine's wonderful navy Jack sofa.  Love the lines and those pillows pop against the navy!   (I'm a HUGE fan of C.R. Laine...they always have such wonderful style.  Check out some of their items from High Point Market this year, yes total tangent!)

Custom pink pillows with navy Greek key trim, the navy sofa is CR Laine's Jack sofa.
Parker Kennedy uses a fun mix of chinoiserie and modern elements.  I love the addition of the pink juju hat above the fireplace!  (PS. there is a seagrass rug underneath the plastic protective cover!)

These little puppies are at the warehouse getting ready for delivery.  (And you can get a better look of that fanned peacock looking chair and its vibrant colors in the warehouse photo).  Can you imagine how it looks in the show house room!?  BRILLIANT! Look at that pink and navy ceiling!  Really makes the room pop!  For more fun about painting the ceiling of a room, read here.

Install, day 1.  Lantern just starting out.  This will add character to the room!

Here are David and Lance at the preview party (pictured with a friend of theirs).  All photos courtesy of Parker Kennedy Facebook page.

The show house is located in the heart of Buckhead on East Andrews drive.  If anyone is local to the ATL area, you should stop in and see this incredible display.  (Atlanta's Cathedral Inspiration Showhouse 2013).

One of the many things I love about David and Lance's design style is their mix of Palm Beach vintage-chic and modern elements. They frequently travel to Palm Beach and scour flea markets for undiscovered treasures and then bring them back to their Atlanta showroom where they refinish them like new.   I frequently go to their facebook page and review their newest findings and just drool.  One of these day's I'm going to make my way down to see them at their space at Scott's Antique Market.

Check back tomorrow!  I'm going to share some of my personal favorites from the Parker Kennedy collection.

xoxo
